1979-S Proof Nickel Mint Marks: More Help With Type 1 And 2?

Brandmeister Pillar of the Community United States 6458 Posts	Posted 02/03/2024 9:19 pm I purchased the following two coins as examples of the Type 1 and Type 2 mint marks. I know that the Type 1 "blob" is actually an old Trumpet Tail mint mark from the 1950s brought back into service, thanks to a very interesting article. Also, I have studied the Trumpet Tail mint mark variety nickel from 1941. Definitely the second coin is Type 2. But the first coin does not have the flat top and triangular serif of a Trumpet Tail, even as the MMS-009 recycled punch.
