Excellent, Dearborn! Are you branching out to UK coins?
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Well sort of. I've had these since 1984. Back then there was no internet to properly identify them, Now that I discovered Numista.com, and a few other sites, I'm better armed to id these.

Way back then I was trying to collect one coin from every reigning King or Queen (I have 22 of them) and back then (I wish I had bought much more) only cost me pennies on the dollar.

AH! OK - I see the difference now - tell me if I'm wrong here please. The leg of the sitting figure has the right leg extended on a Farthing, and is bent under with the left leg extended on the halfpence..
Also the spear is at the elbow not at the shoulder..

Those identifiers may help, but the main thing is the size, the farthing being half the circulation value of the halfpenny.
After a while you will easily see that the proportions are completely different, even when you don't have a scale to compare it with.
The farthings are much more common than the halfpennies.

Thanks Paddy - not having one of each did not help in identifying it so I did not look at the physical sizes - a mistake I won't make again.. Thanks
