I have intended to respond to this fine article. Yes, many of us have seen this coming for many years. The government thrives on the inflationary agenda- this is a sure way for that to continue. Money is no object- just put it on the Credit Card. Our society now has the plastic card mentality. Many of you may know that our bible even predicts this to happen. In Isa 2;20 it speaks of In that day (our time) people will be throwing their money to the bats and the moles. In another sense-meaning without regard. There has been a war against gold as Speedy has pointed out indirectly since the Roosevelt days. Now as to coin collecting in conjunction with all of this I wish to emphasis a few point. Think on this. Our government is simply involved in an appeasement thing in allowing ownership of gold at this time. Mainly what they are minting -the new 1/10,1/4-1/2 and 1 ounce gold eagles. Ok, after so long a time, we were permitted under law to keep numismatic pieces of gold (who determines if it is a numismatic item) Have we forgotten that 31 years after Gold standard was abolished that the same thing happend to our silver coinage. Sure, we get Silver Eagles and other Commemeratives coinages issued by the mint. What I am saying, is that all of the silver and gold that you may possess can be recalled-confiscated by the government at their discretion. Other countries have done this (France is one) and under pain of death. What good is a MS 69 coin valued at $10,000 or more to the owner in such a time when that probably will happen. All of the High Grade Numismatic material held by the big time investors (Snobs) will be of no value- they can not barter it- They can not sell it- and the government won't care if they keep it. To all other collectors, the government doesn't worry about any of us with our silver or gold- because we can not spend it. Banks and merchants can not (under new laws accept it) Many banks even now will not give you coinage unless you pay a service fee. They will not accept rolls of coinages from you unless you are a good customer or you must pay a fee for that (Service?) And so my friends, We still have the fines hobby there is- but probably we should keep in mind that it is a hobby and we should spend only what we can afford for the sake of our hobby- and not for Investment or hedge purposes)-

In thinking of worthless money- I am reminded of this little true story-- And many of you will have heard similar ones. A country store where I used to stop in for a soda when making my business rounds told me of this incident. A little boy was given a dollar to buy a loaf of bread and his mother told him he could have the nickel in the change to buy some candy (she was living in the dark ages), when the store lady gave him his change, he left it on the counter. She called to him to get his change. He said, 'You can keep it, because it won't by anything anyway". Now this happened several years ago.. But have you noticed, in parking lots many many times there are pennies or small change that has been dropped and people do not pick it up. I always do, because when I was a kid a penny would buy sometimes as many as ten pieces of candy. It simply brings back some pleasant memories. Habiru001

Keep up the good stories Sir Habiru.

Thank you Sir Dan, we are like two peas in a pod- Some of us do in fact remember the Good Ole Days. I feel another story coming up- about those big pennies and the big nickel. I'm telling you, I mowed lawns for a dime-and sometimes a quarter- and boy a quarter really looked big- Now what those dimes did was pay my way into the Saturday Matinee where I could watch a double feature shoot-em-up movie, and with a nickel I could get a large sack of buttered popcorn--or an ice cold soda after the movie. My son will sometimes say to me- Dad- I don't think I like hearing about the good ole days-(The way you tell it)It is true- Some of us like remembering some of those times, a plate lunch for 15cents. "But, Dad, people didn't make as much-- Well this is true- All I can say to this is- everything to it's own time and place. Sir Habiru- The New Knight
