personally, I keep them because I don't often see GB coinage, but it is not all that valuable.

It's actually the highest mintage British coin ever, as huge numbers were required in 1971 to replace the old pre-decimal coins. They are still readily obtainable in circulation in the UK, though getting scarcer as the post-1992 clad steel pennies get commoner.
