I am wondering if this is a real half-dollar with Booker T. Washington or a commemorative coin. I guess this will help. It is a 1946 if you can not view it in the photo. Thank you for the help.

It is both...it is a commemorative half dollar.

The first comm. half was the 1892 Columbian Expo.

Thank you for the information. I was about to punch it in search. I should have done that first. I have both the B.T.W. and the W.C. halves. He had them in with the tokens?

Definitely not tokens as they were issued as commemoratives and utilized 90% silver half dollar planchets. Those are two of the more common classic commems but still quite collectible.

They are legal tender and actually circulated to a limited extent too. I have a few of the early commemoratives that had circulated freely for quite some time. ~ Jim
