Hi, I recently got out some of my american silver eagle dollars to look at them when I noticed a purple stain around the edges. I keep them in a silver eagle book. I don't know alot about metal's, if someone can please tell me what this is, how to prevent and hopefully how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it. please see photo

If you got it out of a folder, It is probably just toning.

It looks like natural toning to me.

First... to the forum, second...cool uncle!. A few things can factor into toning a coin. Air, temperature, album types, sunlight, contact with a chemicals and 15 things I can't think of. Dansco albums are not known for their toning, quite the opposite. The best advise I can give is to store in a cool dry place, and dark if possible, and away from chemicals. Good luck!.

I agree with acidic. It doesn't sound like a Dansco, that is why I posted the link to one to see if you could recognize it. I am always leery about older albums as they use to contain pvc in the plastic slides which destroyed many a coin. Yours may not be that old to contain the pvc. However like others have said it sounds like natural toning which won't damage the coin. Some people find it attractive and others don't. It's a personal decision. I don't care for toning myself. I like to keep my bright shiny things bright and shiny. If that is your like, then perhaps you might want to transfer them to a different type of storage source. As far as getting off what has already accumulated I am not sure what to do about that and perhaps somebody with a little more knowledge would be more helpful on that front. Welcome to the forum.

Just depends. If you have two Toners (just my name for them) who get in a bidding war it could make it more valuable. It only takes two of them going back and forth.
