Hello all. Came across this 2001 D Vermont qtr. It weighs only 4.71 and looks very strange from the side view. It is probably damage but I wanted to make sure. It is too odd looking and light not to. The texture of the coin is rough too. If Ny other details are needed please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Yup, acid damage. The giveaway is the copper core has receded more than the clad layers. That's because the copper is more susceptible to acid, and dissolves at a faster rate. That's why the center of the edge looks like it's been scooped out.

This is an acid dipped coin - Acid will eat away the core (the edge) first as the copper is much softer than the cladding.
