Not entirely sure about this nickel being a clipped planchet.

Case for: 1. Some metal flow towards the gap. 2. Possible Smith effect on the rim edges of the clip.

Case against: 1. Not much, if any, visible Blakesley effect. 2. Circulation wear interfering with the clip details.

What does the edge look like? Can you get a picture of the edge, where the clip is?

yes, that was my thought too - an edge image. and can you get an image of the obverse and reverse without the black background - it seems like it may be hiding some details.

It's a good clip. The distortion on the WE is pretty definitive.

Thanks, Mr. Bats.

Additional pics as requested:

I had an expectation that it was the real deal. The clip wasn't mentioned in the listing, and I doubted that someone would go to the trouble of faking a clipped planchet just to sell it on ebay for a dollar. It could have been a damaged coin, of course. A lot can happen in 68 years of circulation.

Good clip. When they are this small, the Blakesley effect might not be there. Also some real big clips won't have it either.
