Hi all,

Is this damage before I try to clean it off?
The coin weight is 1.79g.
The obverse appears clean.
The reverse has no trace of the Bluenose showing.
I took a pic with the flash to show what I think is some of the coin metal peeking through the white whatever.

Is there anything in production that could cause this?

Is it powdery or hard? Soft or sticky? Have you just tried some water over the surface, preferable hot distilled?

It is hard, like plaster. Nothing flaking or scraping off.

I will soak in water...

I suspect it's a normal coin that was glued on to something; the white stuff is a combination of the glue and whatever surface it was glued on to.

Perhaps it's somebody's "let's glue a coin onto the sidewalk and watch people try to pick it up" prank coin.

Run it under a hot water trickle from a water tap.
