As my brother lives in the UK, I usually get anything I do buy from the mint shipped to his address and he will ship it to me once we have looked over it together. I don't do it much because its obviously a hassle for him.
The other thing I do is buy from resellers in the US which also avoids this issue.

When I was selling coins about 15 years ago I had a pre printed label, the tackiest I could do, with "lucky badge winner" on it plastered all over the front of the envelope. My thinking was that it would discourage anyone in the postal service wondering too much what was in the envelope, and that it was probably a piece of tat. For the few items that went abroad I still had numismatic item on the form though, just to keep things right.

Bacchus2 that's a great idea:) And I wonder if I actually bought from you in the past... I do remember something like that one of the labels to coins I bought when I lived in the UK but that was almost 2 decades ago ...
