hi, the coin is between 3.5 and 3.6 grams, from large collection hundreds coins (only 50 pf. 1949-50 over 50 coins). I think the coin is authentic

Quite a detailed collection. Is it from a larger collection? Seems rather specific. Hard to say if original or restrike. My Krause indicates that restrikes made from mint, so probably hard to tell the difference.
Where is Ziggy when we need him.
If I were to guess I would say original , since it came from large collection.
ANy more details about collection may help authenicate

Heya WWhitmann; sorry I'm late! :)

OK, 1950G BdL... Only 30k GENUINE one, but they were restruck illegally in the 60's or 70's at the Karlsruhe Mint! (if youre curious, look up Karlsruher Münzskandal in 1975; its an interesting story. Mint workers illegally made (from memory) 1950G 50Pfg (J.379), 1967G 1Pfg (J.381a), proof 1951G 5DM (J.387), 1957G 2DM (Max Planck - J.392); they made something like half a Million DM out of it!)...

But the above posters are quite correct; since the Karlsruher Münzskandal there have been a few chinese restrikes and through out the entire period, people have been 'latheing' 1949G reverses with 1950x obverses - some of them are VERY hard to spot... If you can get your hands on a copy of Volker Weege - Münzfalschungen, you'll find more info in there too...

Now, to this coin, i) weight is critical; should be 3.45gramms to 3.52gramms (3.45g is typical wear weight and 3.52g is maximum planchet weight; approx), ii) it should NOT be a proof (if its a proof, its either a Münzskandal strike (not a bad thing) or a Chinese copy (bad), iii) put it under a good glass (we're talking x15 - x20 minimum here) and look VERY closely around the INSIDE of the rim for anything not quite right, iv) uneven wear on ONE face (if one side has been lathed in, its very hard to sit that face TRULY flush, and if it was me v) I'd get a second 50Pfg, ideally another Karlsruhe strike, like a 1949G or 1950G and get them to an X-Ray place and have some x-rays taken, trying to get a good image of the exact orientations of the coin faces and have a good look, to make sure things 'line up' properly...

If you get this far, I'd then get it to a German coin expert (Guy Franquinet, Erich Paproth, etc) for validation... in decent condition, its worth a good 750.00€ (about US$1,000.00?) and definately worth the hassle of getting it professionally looked at. While, I'm not 100% sure on this, there probably are small differences between the ORIGINAL 1950G BdL and RESTRIKE 1950G BdL, that guys like this will be able to spot!

AND, in addendum, according to this site ( http://www.pfennigundmark.de/karlsr...skandal.html ), there was also a 1956G 5DM proof restruck. For those who can read German, or know about Google Translate, more info at:-

http://www.pfennigundmark.de/karlsr...prozess.html
http://www.pfennigundmark.de/karlsr...rozess1.html
http://www.numismatikforum.de/ftopic9195.html (original document above text is drawn from)

Enough info WWhitmann? :) How are you going with your German stuff?

But yeah, the 1950G BdL and the Karlsruher Münzskandal is interesting stuff! Updated as one of the links was mispelt..
