So I have some more notes from an estate lot that I am trying to sell. In this lot there were three New Caledonia notes with a stag head on the back. It looks like the 20 Francs note has a high price guide value, but I am not getting much interest in these here and now on ebay. Does anyone have any opinions on these. Is their condition holding them down? Thanks for any opinions. Edited by MINT_MARQ 04/19/2009 10:31 am

It seems that even though these are rare notes, no one collects them. For example, I didn't even know N. Caledonia issued its own notes. I always thought they used the XPF franc.

The 20 Francs P#57, has a lot of staining and a heavy fold in the center. This is the most valuable but condition wise I'd grade it as G, value wise $5-$7.
The 50 Centimes P#51 has signatures all over it along with some staining which is going to reduce the value of this note. Grade wise I'd say VG, $1.50.
The 2 France P#56, has some wear and a heavy fold in the center. I'd grade this at F, with a value of about $7.00.
These are interesting note, I haven't seen many of them.

Thanks for the comments all, especially the information from echizento. I guess all that explains why they are not selling like hot cakes at a starting bid of $10. I agree that they are interesting notes to look at. If they don't sell, maybe I should start collecting notes .

G'day, I did some more research. Apparently the Cross of Lorraine indicates that these notes were issued by the Free French: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_LorraineIf I recall naval history correctly, the H.M.A.S. Sydney took New Caledonia off the Vichy in 1940: but I may have to stand corrected on the details of that. Hence, I wondered who was "making money" in 1943. Elsewhere on CCF, another member notifies some French coins for sale. Among them is in 1943 Cameroun 50-centime. That also has the Cross of Lorraine, and some other heraldic devices to indicate that it too is Free French. Peter in Oz

A lot of interest from ebay buyers in France and finally sold to someone in Switzerland. My wife is relieved that they sold and that they did not get me started collecting notes.......Yet

I think those notes are neat! I like the designs. I just don't collect circulated world notes. All my world notes are UNC.
