I found this loonie today in the till. I find it irritating because I collect coins and defacing a coin, to me, is akin to graffiti.

I like coins that have been "personalized". I know they are not valuable but I keep all that I find. Recently I found a nickel that has the work "RESISDANCE" punch on it. They put it where the word cent is. It looks like they spent some time doing this. I will try to post a pic.

Maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety. I don't see any artistic merit in this unlike the hobo nickels where time, thought and effort have been put into them. Those I like. I have several coins that have been "tagged" like this loonie and it just reminds me of the neighbourhood fences, garages, garbage cans and even vehicles that have been defaced.

I like murals on buildings (and have even done several myself) but when someone marks something with their name, nickname or profanity it just upsets me.

It's just how I feel.

To be fair, the coin was a little tatty before it got a new name, there are millions of these things, and what makes coin go up in value is when they become rare because these sorts of things happen.
When they get taken out of circulation they will all just get melted anyway.

Yes, I feel your pain when I see coins that were deliberately defaced, bent, gouged, holed, cut, etc. It hurts me more when it's a KEY date issue from the Victorian or Edwardian Era. They have such low mintages to begin with and to add to that scarcity, people throughout time went out of their way to damage them?....................OUCH.
That's when I feel the pain!
