Heritage Auctions - Our curator picked his favorite items from our upcoming June 16 U.S. Coins Small Cents Showcase Auction.
1877 1C VF35 PCGS
Problem-free, attractive collector-grade examples of the 1877
Indian cent are surprisingly hard to find. Many circulated pieces show various forms of environmental impairment, so collectors looking to find a nice, attractive piece are often forced to spend more on a higher-grade coin. This is a very nice Choice VF example, and a coin that I think is a highlight in the auction for that reason.
1888/7 1C Fine 12 PCGS. Snow-1, FS-301
This is a very scarce variety for the
Indian cent series, and it is the top variety for Cherrypickers to try and find. It can be difficult to identify it in low circulated condition because the overdate feature is mainly visible at the bottom left of the final 8, where the base of a 7 slightly protrudes. However, examples of this variety also have a small rim
Cud at 9 o'clock on the obverse, which is visible even on this worn example. The coin has a uniform walnut-brown patina.
1909-S 1C Snow-1, MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC
This is a shockingly well-struck example of the 1909-S
Indian cent. Most examples of this final-year key date are notoriously weak on the upper headdress feathers, and they often also show weakness on the reverse wreath bow. However, this piece has strong detail in these areas. It also displays original copper-orange luster with mottled chestnut toning and has very few specks or marks. In terms of the 1909-S, this piece is truly outstanding.
