Hi,

Need help with newbie question/issue.

Do these look like they were replated? I removed them from the flips they were in thinking it was some sort of PVC residue and soaked them overnight in acetone. No change.

The strange blotchiness does look more like some kind of glue or paste to me rather than a straight "replating that's gone horribly wrong" scenario - though a glance at the edge should tell you if they're replated or not.

Thanks for the feedback.

So, "a glance at the edge", on a replated coin I would see zinc/shiny around the edged, as opposed to just a lip of zinc from the punch process and dull steel look?

More or less, yes. You should see a clear difference in composition between the edge and the two sides.

On a replated cent, the edge would look shiny like the obverse and reverse of a replated coin. On an original cent it would be dull looking.Try using the search box here on CCF for tons of reliable info.
