Hi all,

I was wondering if you could help me ID this coin. I think it might be Indian but I have no clue.

Diameter: 10mm, weight: 0.50 grams

Thanks in advance!

My guess is an Ottoman akce. Search the Zeno database I saw a couple with some similarities, but nothing very close. I didn't find any Indian coins with similarities to this coin there. Hopefully another member will be able to better identify the coin.

Not Ottoman for sure; that's not Arabic script.

It reminded me of Chola "octopus man" coinage so I started searching in that direction, and there's a very similar type on Numista but it's gold, not silver. I'll check Zeno...

EDIT: couldn't find any similar silver on Zeno, only the gold.

FYI: Zeno has plenty of those for Sri Lanka at Category #4410.
Yet again, they are all gold there...

I agree the design certainly looks like a Chola gold coin. Maybe this one is low-grade gold?
