this one has a long distinct raised line on the reverse.
die clash is the only thing I can think of that might cause this...

If it were a clash - that line would be on the obverse, not the same side as the design.

you're right! didn't even think of that. thanks

i initially thought you were talking about a scratch on the coin. but yes, it could be some sort of die scratch. sorry, my misinterpretation. :)

guess something must have messed with the die...

Many recent nickel dies feature indistinct raised lines on their surfaces. Many pursue a sinuous path. The lines continue uninterrupted from the field to the design, making a die gouge unlikely. More than one ridge can appear on the same face. The only explanation that makes any sense is that these are the impressions of hubbed-in debris. But it's unclear what these thin bits of material represent, why they only affect nickels, and why they're so darn common.

might be some sort of planchet defect. the defect does not appear on any of the letters. maybe the nickel planchets are particularly crappy?

yeah, I have more than an entire roll of the same defect. looks similar but it curves over the obverse, from the bottom through the last digit of 2022. I also have several 2022 specimens that are on the obverse, covering maybe a centimeter.
