I'm not aware of one site that lists the many tens of thousands of ancient coins, Greek, Roman and other cultures. There are online databases like American Numismatic Society, museum databases that show how many of a specific coin they have. RPC Roman Provincial Coinage database lists how many examples of a coin are known to them. Then there are online completed auctions with descriptions that can say scarce, rare, X many known.

Some reference books like RIC, Roman Imperial coinage has a rarity scale, but it's outdated.

There are quite a few scarce to rare ancient coins. Rarity does not necessarily mean a coin is worth a lot. It depends on the condition of the coin and market demand, how popular it may be with collectors.

I have some rare ancient coins which are cool to have but they are not worth a fortune.

Do an online search, type in description of the coin you are referring to, see if there's any info on it.

I use acsearch for identifying coins quite often. And whenever I see a reference for any auction that was held by Numismatics Paris, they always put a rarity with a number on their listings in the same format. So that system must be from somewhere. Example below. And you need google translate for the French quite often. Like I never did check what R3 means etc. But it is someones scale.

POSTUMUS
Type : Sesterce
Date : 261
Mint name / Town : Trèves
Metal : bronze
Diameter : 30 mm
Orientation dies : 6 h.
Weight : 16,33 g.
Rarity : R3
Obverse legend : IMP C PO-STVMVS P F AVG

I checked that site. its basically $1 to do a search each time.
i don't know how much better it would be than a google image search for free.

When I am on acsearch.info there is no fee to do a coin search, it's free. You can see pics of coins and their auction descriptions. For more info like prices realized you need to be a member, there is a fee for that.
