Hard to tell what marks are on the coin and which are on the older.

Buffalo nickels can be a challenge especially from photos so ill just throw an au55 out there.

i noted in the text that the scratches are on the holder so ignore those
this is a good coin to test your grading skill knowledge of one of the most difficult series

this must have been a challenge as there were not a lot of grades posted. this one really gives you a sense of the challenges grading this series. the luster is unbroken on the coin so it is in fact an MS coin

ignoring the scratches the obv is apparently a VLDS die and I would guess the rev LDS. I'm not well versed in dies but this is just my guess

there is not much to go on on the obv. typically you would see some devices struck up but the only one thats even close is the braid clasp and maybe the front of the face. there are a few hits on front leg but you can see a split tail and you can see some nicely defined fur on the top of the head and around the neck. the denomination is very well struck with no signs of rub or circulation testifying to an MS grade

NGC graded this coin MS64. I think its a little generous which you don't normally see on buffs that look like this. I would have graded it MS63. coinfrog hit it on the nose. this was not an easy one to nail down
