Hey guys I don't know very much about coins and thought hopefully y'all can help. Well I got this dime that looks just like a penny and I can't quit thinking about it. Is there anything special about this dime? Or is it simply discoloration from age and wear?

Hello and
We get quite a few of these posted on the forum and they are almost invariably normal dimes that have suffered environmental damage, It may have been buried in soil and dug up by a metal detectorist, or perhaps it spent some time in a fountain or 'wishing well'. Cupro-nickel coins exposed to these conditions often turn dark brown.

Thank you for that! It just looks so much like a penny (the picture didn't capture the color well) I had to know. I've seen them turned black but never like this. It's been put up in my closet forever I finally found where to ask about it.

I really appreciate any info I can get so again Thank you!

To CCF! The color you're seeing is from Environmental Damage ( PMD).
