I recently bought an Aethelred II penny. I am undecided whether it is genuine or not. I noticed small indents on the reverse and obverse, and inside the 'D' of 'LVNDON' on the reverse some chatter. The wear on the 'o' s are slightly odd as well.
Making fake English hammered isn't easy; they're too thin to cast, and too irregular to mass-produce by machine-striking. The three holes in this piece also look like authentic holes.

I do not know the type but the coin looks good to me. No indications of it being cast. It was struck and well aged. The hole are in a strange place but who can guess why they were made.
