I have one similar, the smell of plastic or something is kind of strong from it.
Several of the coins that was inside it I think has been stored for 50 years inside it some have developed a golden toning on outer edges

Any opinions? is it safe to use or bad for your coins

I do 't see a problem. The original cases are important to their value, I'd guess.

Golden toning on outer edges seems normal for the age and the fact they are uncovered.

If you smelled plastic, I would worry about green goo. But then again, after 50 years if it was going to happen, it would have by now.

Thank you, well its kind of a strong chemical smell. The linnen inside has turned yellow.
Its a beautiful case and practical. But I have read about pvc and soapboxholders

I wonder if it is from the cardboard or whatever is behind the black covering? Probably explains the golden tone. I would not be complaining though.

Looks nice from here!

I do not believe they will harm the coin. To be in there that long, any unwanted damage should have happened by now.

Thank you Jbuck, kind of you to help out. The case must be 40-60 years old, and at that time chemicals wasnt always a concern
But you are right any problems would have shown up by now
