I saw this nickel on an ebay auction the other night. The distended last 9 was really intriguing, and Variety Vista does list the FS-101 DDO. It also seems to have a distended 9. However, I couldn't make out any doubling lines on the auction coin, and I don't really know enough about Buffalo nickel doubled dies to shell out cash to satisfy my curiosity.

Is this the FS-101, or does that stretching of the 9 happen because of weakening devices around the coin edges or some other phenomenon?

I downloaded those pics from ebay. That's about the best I can do, unfortunately.

Ah, ok, that's a bummer.
I cannot say if it is a DDO or just circulation flattening and normal wear on it.

After looking at a bunch more 1929 Buffalo nickels in listings, I have realized that this particular stretching of the last 9 is quite common. So clearly not a DDO. Just in case anyone wonders that in the future.
