Strongly recommended relevant reading: "April Blood" by Lauro Martines. It provides a fascinating, detailed account of the Pazzi Conspiracy, as well as Lorenzo de' Medici's revenge (late 1470s through late 1480s) and, more generally, of the culture of Quattrocento Florence. It contains much information about the lifestyles of the wealthy families of Florence (and Milan, Naples, Rome, and elsewhere), as well as the politics, culture, and brutality (assassination plots, murder, executions, and serious doses of revenge) of the time.
