Presumably that's because whatever you're using to scan it has anti-counterfeiting software built into it, that detects when a banknote is scanned and blocks you from doing so.

It'll probably let you scan a portion of the note (like the serial number), just not the whole note.

As for the collectability of the serial number, it's not really low enough to qualify as a "low number", and nor is it any other kind of highly desirable pattern. I'd reckon no, not unless there was some other reason to keep it.

-I might keep this: not because of the serial number but b/c it's the next to last prefix of the 2015 Commemorative Issue (BC-74/P-111). For some odd reason Numista price tables has this note Book at $32 in AU. (C&C has this note at $20 in AU but I think it would be somewhere in between-$26-$27) Here's the thing, only 43M were issued (which is a drop in the bucket compared to the ongoing QEII (BC-71/P-108) issue which is now in its 3rd signature variation. This is a drop-in-the-bucket considering billions of the original BC-71 have been issued (& there will up to 100,000,000 more -another Rogers signature run likely). On top of all this, fewer collectors tucked these 2015 $20 away b/c a) the designs weren't jaw-dropping different (but extremely subtle with QE on holograph) & b) banks limited the number they'd give/exchange with the public (so condition is key). I struggled finding banks that had these & had these in UNC while they were released.

Take a look for yourself at the stats of notes issued.
1.5 Billion Regular BC-71 2012 Standard CDN $20 (with many prefixes to go):
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/note201585.html

BC-74 2015 Commemorative of Queen's reign (43M):
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/note201754.html

Coins&Canada:

Now, if you already have a lot of these in UNC &/or really need the $20 for something important, then you should probably spend it.

Thank you very much for the very in depth reply. very helpful.
i was able to get a run of 100 from the bank when they first came out.
even though this note may not be worth a whole lot, I like it and as I said, I really appreciate your comments. Thanks
