Can anyone help me understand what is going on with this coin? The obverse has an imprint of another coin. I am not sure if this is an error or PMD

It looks like glue. A Sheild cent may have been stuck to this coin at some point. I might chip off, or you can soak it in acetone to see if it dissolves it.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

It's glue. It should come off with a pure acetone soak.

A new shield cent was pressed into the nickel, most likely in a vise. Normally you can tell because the lettering is backward. Notice how unum is on the wrong side? If that was done by a die, it would be on the right side instead of the left.

as Yoko stated, there is glue on this coin. The glue was used to make an impression of another coin on this one.
A good acetone soak should relieve the coin of its burden.

Hard to tell 100% from the pics, but as said, it's either a vise job or glue. Not an error.

Well I'm glad you're open-minded. We get an occasional member that leaves here in a tough "knowing" it's not glue and sure we have no idea what we're talking about.
