Hey all,

Excited to be here. I had an interest created over a recent vacation with my niece with coin and potential value in the years or errors in the minting.

Now this hobby has taken a bit more of a commitment with digital microscopes, appraising apps (Coinsnap) and literature about coin collecting.

I will post some of the interesting find I have made so far plus those that I find as I go through the collection of coins I've been saving over the years.

My parents have taken an interest and told me about along with showed me some of the items that they saved. Right now there are more stories of the collectibles as they are in the process of looking for them.

One story that has peaked my interest is of a STAMP collection of 2, my father has inherited from his father. My g-pa was in the SeaBees military unit as a construction worker. He helped construct a base in Antarctica along with a postal service building at the location.

The story goes: Admiral Byrd and his team was present for the completion of the base and postal service. There was a commemorative stamp released for that opening; about 50 individuals received stamps for that day. My grandfather has of those 2 stamps. One on a postcard with Admiral Byrd and his team's signatures and one stand alone stamp.

I'll be excited to post pictures of these finds to see what the consensus says about them!

A stone's throw away from the American Dream mall.

I'm still going through my collection of pennies I've hoarded since the late 1990s.

Then I will be looking at my wife's coins (nickels, dimes, quarters) that she's been collecting for the last 25 years or more.

Then I'll have my parents and in-laws collections to go through. In-law may have international spanish, cuban, mexican money. They say they have old ones from my grandparents and in-laws older generations as well.

My penny stash alone will take a week or two to go through. I'm putting some on the side that are rated well in the appraising app, but it doesn't account minting errors. (At least, from the ones I have scanned to the app). I have noticed some with my eyes and digital microscope that I put aside as potential print/mint errors.

I live in Bergen County, so should be close. If you need help with evaluating your coins (especially world coins)- would be happy to help.
