Hi,I am trying to find out what exactly I have here. my wife has recently inherited some coins her mother kept for a long time before passing. We have just now started looking into them some of them seemingly worth something when looking them up. But there's so many different answers. We have done a little research and have a basic knowledge of how coins are graded, and we understand it's a flip of the coin whether it has any potential value, but we do have some pretty neat ones that we are curious about. Like a 1974 quarter she found that has a mark where a mint should be but it doesn't have letter definition of a P or S or D. Also a penny that is not from 1943 but 1996 and looks to be silver. And a few other unusual oddities or errors. Any help would be very appreciated thank you

to the CCF, KBKash! The moderators will probably lock this topic unless you post pictures of your coins (see guides below). The two coins you've described are probably not of any value. The quarter is difficult to diagnose without images. The 1996 cent could be plated, it could have been subjected to heat, or it's remotely possible that it is an unplated mint error.

Here are a couple of links where you can find instructions for taking and posting pictures:

There was no P mint mark until 1979.
As for the "silver penny", most likely plated

We will gladly help you, but we will need images first. We are locking this topic to prevent posts with "We need images". You will get many more quality responses when there are quality images in the first post of a topic. Please start a new topic when you are able to upload pictures. If needed you can use the testing forum. Tutorials are below.

Note: When you start a new topic this one may be removed. So don't panic if you get an email that your topic was removed it's only this one.

PC: We highly recommend IrfanView. (Download) (Irfanview Tutorial)

Apple Computers: Tutorial here: http://goccf.com/t/466343

Cell Phones (iPhone or Android): First, do not upload cell phone pictures of screens. They are terrible. Please check your camera settings are set to Medium quality. If it uses compression use 70%, it's perfectly fine for the internet. For file type please use WEBP if your phone has it, otherwise JPG. Avoid PNG and GIF, they are horrible choices. Be sure to crop the image to only show the coin. This is a great setup for cell phones.
