ran across this coin roll hunting today. not sure what it is but someone has probably seen it. any comments would be great. photos are not the best but good enough to show the defect. obverse is perfect.

thanks in advance!

Is the area with the "defect" raised or recessed or just flat as is the field? If neither, does it look like something was spilled or dripped on it?

Yeah, it does look like something was dripped or spilled on it.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

It appears that it is raised in some areas but recessed in others. The date and the beads have not been affected so I assume the planchet might have been damaged.

raised would mean some foreign substance on the coin like super glue or something... you could try soaking in pure acetone to see if it comes off

Got some acetone and gave it a bath. Looks normal again. Thanks for your help!

My feeling was it's something on the coin. The acetone removed it, so there's your answer.
