Thanks okiecoiner and Johnnysprawl for your input. I thought VF-30 myself looking at the obverse in hand, the wear on the king's cheek and 'stash is clear. The reverse looks strong, especially where people would handle the coin between thumb and fingers about a century ago. I'm going mid-way in my catalogue @ VF-35, and I'll let my Grade 10 history classes have a look at it when we study WWI and Vimy Ridge... every soldier got 2 per day (the equivalent) during the war. We had some of the best paid soldiers, definitely the toughest, but not nearly respected enough; especially when they got home. My great grandfather fought in WWI. He survived, but sadly, died just before I was born. Saw pictures of him in his uniform and man do those guys have hollow stares.

Pics are not ideal but I'd say 45.

VF 35 . Classic EF requires 8 beads in band of KGV Crown. Still quite a pleasing coin!

Thank you to all who shared their opinions. I have catalogued it in my collection as a VF-35. The two beads left/centre in George's crown are visible but slightly worn. The picture isn't ideal, but best I could do on a quick I-Phone set up (shaky hands!). I agree, it is a nice looking coin and I got it for a very reasonable price so that is always nice

Not sure if this would grade straight, as the photos indicate an apparent cleaning. If if goes straight I am at VF35. Sorry for the loss of your Grandpa.
