Don't give up on the hobby! Maybe you could try another denomination of coin. Remember there seems to be a general consensus that 2009 is going to be a GREAT year for the collector.

we (my girlfriend - actually) was also the victim of a home invasion robbery. she is a "jewelrey" fanatic, and lost 10's of thousand dollars of face value jewelrey - not to mention the personal violation of being robbed and the personal/sentimental value of many of the items, (including the engagement rig that I gave her).

her attitude was nearly exactly as you describe your views. gradually we have began replacing her beloved pieces with new replacements and have begun building a new collections of personal sentiments, and memories. one diamond piece in particular, I was able to find an EXACT" replacement piece, for one which I also gave the the original piece, along with a card which said basically "DONT LET THE BAD GUY'S WIN". someday I hope to replace the engagement ring with another one of equal or better value. the point being "DONT LET THE BAD GUYS WIN"! I hope your rebuild your valuable collection, and your interest in your passion.
