So what happens now? Does this mean I'll get the sets? Are they going to be 2009 ones, too?

That means they have processed your subscription but you should also get a second email that tells you they are going to fill your subscription in about 4 weeks. I would watch the proof set subscription closely since they've already sent out at least some of the second emails (I got mine - the email, not the coins - this week).

I think you should be fine, though.

I got the exact same email when I signed up for the subscription service. As KenKat said, many people have already gotten a 2nd email saying their sets proof sets will ship in 4 weeks time. Since you signed up after that first wave of emails, you might get yours soon as well.

What happens if we don't get the 2nd email, then?

I'd say if you get into July and haven't gotten a notice that you will be receiving the coins or the coins themselves, you should either call the Mint or order a set just to be sure.

I don't think these sets will sell out immediately, so there is time. I think you will get your set with no problem without having to do anything since you put in the subscription request a month ahead of the release date. Just don't forget about it, that's all.

I'm confused

Why the sudden interest in subscriptions? Did I miss something?

I think that with all of the speculation that 2009 mintage numbers might be very low, many people want to make sure that they get theirs this year.

My reason is that this year's proof sets will be special, and I want them as gifts for grandkids -- hopefully something they will keep and pass on to family members as time goes by.

But how are proof set mintage dictated? By buying demand or economy demand? If everyone buys proof sets and the mint mints without limit, then that wouldn't be very nice...
