1880 Coiled Hair $4 from the Paramount Collection graded NGC PF 67 CameoAmong the auction's top lots is the 1880 Coiled Hair $4 from the Paramount Collection, graded NGC PF 67 Cameo (lot 3212), which is one of the most enigmatic and eagerly sought rarities in
US coinage. Only a handful are known to exist, and this particular example is unsurpassed in numerical grade. The coin features Liberty with tightly wound hair, a stark contrast to the locks of the Flowing Hair Stella. This example is one of only nine confirmed survivors and is tied for the finest certified.

1796 Stars Quarter Eagle graded NGC MS 62 and pedigreed to the Ed Price Collection Also available is a 1796 Stars Quarter Eagle graded NGC MS 62 and pedigreed to the Ed Price Collection (lot 3182). Only a few hundred were struck, first without stars on the obverse and then with the stars, which were already on the obverses of the larger Half Eagle and Eagle denominations that had gone into circulation the previous year. The Quarter Eagle struggled to find an audience in its early years, overshadowed by the more practical larger denominations of gold. Its diameter is slightly narrower than a modern-day nickel.

1829 Large Size Half Eagle graded NGC MS 66 and pedigreed to the Bass CollectionAnother NGC-certified coin found in this auction event is an 1829 Large Size Half Eagle graded NGC MS 66 and pedigreed to the Bass Collection (lot 3240). This is one of the great landmark rarities of early US gold, with only seven examples believed extant and just five struck for circulation.
