Since all conventional and logical answers have not made a dent here, Red Ryder BB gun, PMD, The Twilight Zone
then one can only assume that it must be Crop Circles. Yeah that's it, Crop Circles..,or Metal Alloy eating bacteria.

BB guns have been around for well over 100 years and they're sold everywhere. Almost every kid that has ever had a bb gun has shot at a coin at some point in their adventures. I'm betting quite a few hit the target.
