Hello, CCF, for a raw CBH, I thought this one had very nice eye appeal and seemed very original which is darn hard to find. This is variety O-105a and the late die state 105.4. First pics are what it looks like in hand. Second set are with harsh lighting to show surface scratches, dings, and die cracks and what not. There seems to be a fair amount of grit and grime from the centuries, but plan to leave it as is, meaning no acetone. Don't want to re-experience something similar to what happened with my 1817 from about a year ago.

So what are your thoughts on this one?

VF-30 and very nice at the grade. Crusted to perfection! 1820s are tough to find nice at any grade but especially scarce in choice XF and higher.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I was in the VF30 camp myself, so happy to see some of you calling it the same way.

Between NGC and PCGS there are only three straight graded coins of the O-105a variety below XF, so there wasn't much to compare to and photo grade isn't always useful when you're talking about late die states.

might pull VF30. all depends on how a grader sees the weak areas. sometimes they ignore it, sometimes they net grade it and sometimes they call it wear.
