This coin was a gift from spru. Was posted Dec 2, and he was told it would make it by Christmas. It arrived Jan 6. He was relieved to hear from me. He hit this one out of the park, we go back a fair ways, so he knows my love of the Arrow. Thank you very much "sprue".
If you don't know the Arrow saga, look into it, pretty interesting cutting edge technology. I had 3 main Prof's in college. Lister was the head of the data engineers that worked on 202. The coin is 201, 202 was the 2nd one built. It had a landing gear failure. Lots of work resulted. He is the most brilliant man I ever met. And just schooled me on the squash court. I was 19, he was over 70. I don't think he even broke a sweat.
I made a 1/48 scale model of the Arrow and painted it in a Snowbird scheme. The plane was totally unsuited to perform stunts. Too fast! I had the pleasure of having the Snowbirds autograph it. They loved it.
Note the tail number, this would have been the 52nd Arrow, (it's also a radar, not planned) I make models as realistic as possible. Also saved the tail for Snowbird 1 to sign. Got lucky, there was a General that signed at the bottom of the wing. I then went and made a 1/72 scale Arrow in the same paint scheme and presented it to Snowbird 1 when they passed through town in 2000. I was treated like a VIP at their show the next day. I have not flown in 1, but taxied and did engine tests and actually got to "smoke" a Snowbird. 20 years later, I'm chin wagging with a Snowbird and mention the model I gave them. He said "I know it, it's in our hall of fame." I asked "Is it on the Maple Leaf or the tuning fork?" (I made 2 stands for it) "The tuning fork." (this fork was about a foot high with a "U" shaped cradle to hold the plane climbing and banking at 30 degrees. So pointed up and making a turn. It was cool. All stainless steel rod.) I was tickled to hear this, because I'm sure he went back and told the team.
Once again, my Black Sheep brother, thanks for the trip I've been on over this coin.
A little trivia, spru was the 1st GM to beat the guessers. Remember that keith....I remember having to settle everyone down.
