something is going on between STATES and OF. not sure if its corrosion or something was on the coin and was attempted to be cleaned. lighting can be skewing surfaces VF35+ possibly cleaned

Agree with most others at VF details. I would note that the coin appears to have been damaged on the reverse at "S OF" unless this is a lamination peel.

Again thank you all for your opinions. In the auction I was able to zoom in on that area between the S and OF. My impression is that something was in contact with the coin and probably rusty. There is a very slight indent there. Might have been under/on top of a square nail. Who knows. lol

Anyway, this coin is now mine and will look at it closely when I have it in hand. My sights are now set on 2 low grade 1804 Half Cents - 2 different auctions and 2 different varieties.

The coin is actually darker than the auction pics show - kind of coffee colored. That area that is a different color appears to be less toned, like something was laying on it or maybe a stain. Its actually less noticeable with the coin in hand. I put it in acetone for a minute to try to remove that black and its green underneath.
