Not sure it would straight grade with that corrosion at K1 on the reverse.

In these auctions I watch, people don't seem to be worried if something will straight grade or not. For instance, there's a 1858 Flying Eagle (very brassy looking so definitely cleaned) that even I can tell is no where near the EF the seller is calling it. Yet the bid on the coin is over $60.

Quote: Yet the bid on the coin is over $60. Auctions are almost impossible to get a feel for how they will actually end up. There is such thing as alot of uniformed buyers who think they are getting a deal just because it is in an auction setting. Takes experience - and never get discouraged you weren't the highest bidder! Sometimes you will thank that you lost the coin to a higher bidder.

Leftover dirt/grime in LIBERTY highly suggests a past cleaning.

I'll say VF details, cleaned. I had a feeling it was cleaned. The color doesn't look right.

VF, cleaned, and if that's corrosion between the S and O on the reverse, not in collectible condition.

Corrosion doesn't look great and I'm not convinced the color is right. Could be lighting. I would pass.

Agree with most others at VF details. I would note that the coin appears to have been damaged on the reverse at "S OF" unless this is a lamination peel.

Again thank you all for your opinions. In the auction I was able to zoom in on that area between the S and OF. My impression is that something was in contact with the coin and probably rusty. There is a very slight indent there. Might have been under/on top of a square nail. Who knows. lol Anyway, this coin is now mine and will look at it closely when I have it in hand. My sights are now set on 2 low grade 1804 Half Cents - 2 different auctions and 2 different varieties.

The coin is actually darker than the auction pics show - kind of coffee colored. That area that is a different color appears to be less toned, like something was laying on it or maybe a stain. Its actually less noticeable with the coin in hand. I put it in acetone for a minute to try to remove that black and its green underneath.
