Cnd 50¢ (1940-76)and Silver Dollar Coins (1960-84)

sousrigi New Member Canada 1 Posts	Posted 05/14/2009 2:31 pm I'm not a coin collector but have come across several Canadian silver dollars and 50¢ pieces dating from 1940-84 along with some 1906-19 pennies and 5¢ pieces. How can I have the value of these 250+ coins estimated without doing each one individually by me (NO knowledge or time)without it costing me an arm or a leg. I hope this is the right forum. skelly423 Valued Member Canada 187 Posts	Posted 05/14/2009 2:41 pm Hi soursrigi, The fastest way is to sort by silver. Most of the non-silver coins will be at or close to face value (the large cents are about $1 each for common dates, unless they're in top condition). The coins from 1967 and earlier are 80% silver (92.5% for coins before 1919). The common silver coins will sell for around 10 times face value. Before you do that, take a peek for 1948 half dollar, as they are more valuable than your average half dollar. If you have silver dollars from before 1958, you may have coins worth a little more than face 10X face value, depending on condition. 1938, 1945-48, and 1956 are the main key dates, but there are others that might be worth separating from the group. hhbkiddo Pillar of the Community Canada 1248 Posts	Posted 05/14/2009 8:11 pm Another simple and easy, very sure way is to use a magnet Any silver or coopper coins will NOT be attracted by the magnet. then sort all the silver coins and check for dates. list the dates here and the type of coin, and we will tell you what it is and approximate value... as easy as that.... reputable dealers? think again...there are very few....
