After I posted it last night I did some measurements on it and it weighs .2 grams light and 2mm diameter too big. Plus the fact that I cannot find it on Numista at all.. Collecting since 1972. The seller never showed an image of the reverse. but once I got it, I did some measurements and checked on Numista that it was more than suspect - so there was no need to berate me on it. the obverse image that was listed was not a nice large clear one (first sign I missed) Second sign was the lack of a reverse image. The big mistake I made is that I usually check on Numista on all coins I purchase FIRST, but this time I didn't. I'm blaming it all on the extreme pain I'm in and the meds I'm taking is making things a bit difficult to accomplish what I want to do. Collecting since 1972. My apologies. Your admission that the obverse image was not clear and there was no reverse image is certainly an indicator you were fling blind on this purchase. Hang in there. yeah, thank you Everest I have to tell you this - Saitic pain from the lower back all the way down to my now partially numb foot, is the worst pain I have EVER felt. Extremely disabling. you can't, stand, or laydown without creating this terrible pain, forget about sleep, or reaching your feet to get socks and shoes on.. Collecting since 1972. Apart from the general look of the "coin", there's two logical reasons why it is a fake: 1. There are two years that can have "year 3": Yr 3 Meiji , 1870 Yr 3 Taisho ,1914 Year 3 Meiji 1870 doesn't have " 416.ONE YEN.900 on the obverse, but it does on this "coin". 2. The example in question has the obverse design of the 1914 Taisho Year 3 with Meiji overlaid on top, but it doesn't have the reverse design of the 1870 . It should have the original 1870 design. So it's not even a copy, it's a "Fantasy" fake composite of Taisho 3 & Meiji 3. While the reverse design on the 1870 One Yen is unique on the silver One Yen coins, the design is duplicated on the 50 Sen (1/2 Yen) year 3 & 4. These 50 Sen coins are not very expensive in Japan, with EF examples to be found for around $50 USD / 50 EUR. Edited by Dnas 05/09/2025 6:36 pm Report this Post to the Staff
