When I inspected this shoe box for a friend, I new it had some thing special in it. Its a dream when your presented a shoe box that the contents are wrapped with the shoes tissue paper. I couldn't get over how well these bills were preserved in those conditions. Other then that 1 1954 devels face $1,00 bill I-A with some folds the rest of them are in MS condition. Enjoy the story and pics.

Unfortunately, inflation has eroded the real value of the $20 Note since 1937.

In 1937 terms, the $20 Note now has a value of only 66 Canadian Cents,
at an average inflation rate of 4%, over 87 years.

From a notaphilic point of view, I would rather have the 'devils face' $1 Note.

Nevertheless, both Notes are well worth keeping.

The interesting thing about this shoebox is that it could really illustrate how demand plays more of a crucial part in a banknote's book (& market) value. Only the 1937 Gordon-Towers $20 is similar in BV to the DF (Devil's Face) 1954 $20.00 at around $500 - $525 in UNC.

But the 1954 Coyne-Towers Devil's Face $10.00 is $400 in UNC while the 1937 $10 is $200; the DF $5.00 is $525 while the 1937 version is $350.00; the DF $2.00 is $500 & its 1937 counterpart is $275 & the 1954 $1.00 DF is $200 while its 1937 counterpart is $125.00

So the later Devil Face notes clearly beat out the earlier 1937 series (especially the last common signature combo - Coyne Towers from the 1937 series- which is quite common).

So the "bottom line" is you cannot assume just because the series is older, it will be worth more then later series. That's just not the case on so many occasions. Check it out & be sure you know what's the tough series (or signature variation) if you wish to pursue this hobby!

There's so many more assumptions (myths like this) I see collectors fall victim to (which I love to debunk!)

Yes you are so correct on this shoe box value estimate. I always tell people is if its old doesn't mean its valuable. The 1954 F-A bill might make a MS67 with my inspection. All all these bills are going to get certified in the near future. I will post the results.
