I just came across this coin and I do see that it is off-centered, but on the reverse side of the coin underneath the U and the S in Pluribus has a gauge on the coin, but the letters are not affected. How is this possible? I have never seen this before.

Thank you in advance!

I believe the E Pluribus Unum on this coin is recessed.

Remember the U & S are incuse so that could just be a surface scratch. If it's a strike through that would be more interesting.

very slight MAD Strike.
And as stated the 'EPU' is incuse, lower than the field. The mark you see is on top of the field.
