I've inherited a number of bundles of 100 notes each, 1986 $2 bills, all Thiessen Crow. Prefixes include BRA, EGJ, EGK, EGM. Most bundles appear to contain consecutive notes, however at least two have mixed prefixes within them. Most bundles are unblemished notes, however there are a few for which the top couple of notes have some creasing, based on how they were stored.

I've not gone through the notes in detail as I don't want to risk any further blemishes, but my quick scan of serial numbers suggest no radars, solids, or other interesting numbers which some collectors value.

I'll keep a few as souvenirs but ultimately don't need ~10 bundles of these. What is a reasonable value to expect for what I assume to be unextraordinary but interesting notes?

A friend of mine had his father pass away & leave him several bundles exactly like you described. I looked through them & found 2 replacements but other than that- they were all "regular run-of-the-mill" prefixes (with no special #). I couldn't offer him more than a $1.00 or $2.00 above Face Value (premium) & hoped he'd decline (which he did).

The Book Value (BV) is $5.00 to $8.00 (reg UNC to Gem UNC) but I've never seen a dealer charge BV for these (always considerably less, unless on planet ebay). Consecutive # is just the way they were # & released (there's no premium for consecutive # but typically a discount in fact, b/c most buyers expect a discount on a run of notes).

The problem with the last Birds Series $2.00 is that over a billion were issued (& too many bundles hoarded like you described). We just see UNC examples everywhere & so many radars and tougher prefixes go for a song. Nobody wants a regular prefix after collecting for a bit.

My friend later confessed that he asked a dealer what his dad's collection was worth & the guy said he'd pass on all his bundles (& this included 100X regular Birds $5.00; 100 or more regular 1973 $1.00, 50-100 $1974 $2.00 & 20-50 Journey $5.00/$10.00 notes). All of the notes were UNC but they were roughly handled (so many notes would be considered AU). I was actually relieved he didn't want me to buy them as I couldn't buy them for a price he'd expect & sell them for any type of profit (& so many had edge damage & issues). They're just really tough to sell & BV is wishful thinking IMO.

You could see what sellers list them on ebay for & try your luck there but remember that you will be charged a seller's fee (mine was about 30% of the final sale last time I tried ebay about 5 years ago). This is one of the reasons ebay has gotten so expensive over the past few years.

Good luck & to CCF!

Hi walk2dwater and thanks very much for your prompt and comprehensive reply. I had a feeling that was what the answer was going to be. It feels a bit sad TBH to just take them to the bank and deposit them, however I also recognize the volume of notes printed was high, and from what I see there aren't any special prefixes or serials.

I've got more to sort through but the majority of the older notes that they accumulated are in well-circulated condition, unfortunately.

It would be interesting to see what you have. A couple of photos would help.

There are a few collectors on https://cdnpapermoney.com/forum/ who might be interested in your notes. You should try there as well.

Thanks ShareBear for the suggestion, I will post there also. I'll upload a couple of sample pictures shortly. Three bundles are still in bank wrap, the rest are open. Many are sequential however some are mixed, particularly some of the EGJ/EGK/EGM which seem to span across a few bundles. I also note a couple of bundles are obviously notes short given the ranges don't quite work, so perhaps they took a couple off the top at some point for some reason.

BRA 4699200-249, 450-497
EGM 8193501-600, 601-700, 701-800
EGN 0565550-599
EGK 1594700-750, 950-999 (missing 551, the radar of course)
EGR 2978401-450

Then the mixed items - include EGJ69588##, EGM45226##, EGK08697## as examples, but there are others and I don't want to accidentally damage a note by flipping through them.

1986-$2-Thiessen-Crow-Bundles---Value?
1986-$2-Thiessen-Crow-Bundles---Value?

I've included a photo of the sample condition of the bundled notes, as well as the two absolute worst damaged notes in the whole mess here - one even has the bank stamp on it in addition to the bent corner.

They look to be in fairly good shape to me. The outside notes always appear in rougher shape since they take the brunt of handling/being knocked around.

I would expect you can get a 75% premium on each in quantities of 20 & up (like 20 for $70.00). Its either that or sell the UNC reg prefixes in small lots (of 10) for $4.00 each. If you keep your price at AU that might generate some interest & get them sold. Otherwise, just hang on to them.
