Heading to NOLA with Mate tomorrow through Tuesday. The only thing we have planned is a Billy Strings concert Sunday night. I'll check in to the CCF as possible, but probably won't post much. Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates. We made it back safe and sound. Came back home on New Year's Eve and was stunned to hear the news of the attack Wednesday morning. The world is going insane, it seems. We didn't venture into the French Quarter at all - didn't want to get into the tourist mob, especially with the Sugar Bowl looming. The concert was one of the best I've experienced, and that's saying a lot. For those that don't know, Billy Strings is bluegrass, but it's literally bluegrass meets the Grateful Dead (and I saw the Dead many times). They don't end a song until they've finished playing it (and each member gets at least 1 solo - sometimes 3). Each of the band members is incredibly talented, especially Billy. The mandolin player is very impressive also. The scene and crowd were certainly reminiscent of Dead shows. If you go to see them, be sure to arrive early so that you have a while to peruse the Shakedown Street vending area in the parking lot. Billy came out and played a few songs for the crowd out there on Sunday afternoon - unfortunately we had not arrived yet. Other than the show, we spent much of a day in City Park and another shopping on Magazine Street. Monday night ate at Deanie's in Bucktown - it's a place where locals eat. Not fancy in the least but excellent seafood - fantastic chargrilled and raw oysters there. Quote:

Thank you all! Lewy, we were grinning the entire night - how can you not smile and laugh to that music? And that had nothing to do with the things people were selling at Shakedown Street - which was quite a bit more than just t-shirts, if you know what I mean. There were people selling fungi, cacti, herbal goods, etc. Thirty years ago I might have been interested, but I don't even drink alcohol anymore.
McShilling, I took a few pics of some of the doubloons from the top of the jar - an interesting mix. Mostly from the '60s and '70s, but some from the '80s. Will post soon.

I love Billy Strings. His duos with Molly Tuttle are beyond awesome.
