In a thread over in the US Commemorative Coins area, nickelsearcher suggested a thread of US Commemorative Coins that feature domesticated animals. A fine idea that warrants expansion to include coins of the world. So, here's a Gallery thread for Coins/Tokens/Medals of the world that depict a domesticated animal. Per National Geographic: "Domesticated animals are animals that have been selectively bred and genetically adapted over generations to live alongside humans. They are genetically distinct from their wild ancestors or cousins."This would include such animals as dogs, cats, hamsters, cattle, pigs, sheep, horses and camels (among others). It does not include wild animals tamed by captivity, such as lions, tigers, bears, pandas, etc. as seen in zoos or circuses.

I'll kick things off with the 1938 New Rochelle, New York 250th Anniversary Half Dollar. The coin marks the 250th anniversary of the settling/founding of New Rochelle, NY. The obverse of the coin features Lord Pell receiving "one fatt calfe" (presumably the first) as part of the payment for the land purchased from him for the New Rochelle settlement. The reverse of the coin features a French fleur-de-lis which can be found both on the Seal of New Rochelle and the Seal of Port of La Rochelle in France (the New York city's name inspiration/link). The coin was designed by Gertrude Lathrop who also designed the 1936 Albany Charter half-dollar. 1938 New Rochelle, NY 250th Anniversary Half Dollar  Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! The reverse of the George Peabody HOF Medal features one of the most beneficial domesticated animals in human history:  I suspect there are hundreds (thousands?) of equine examples out there in the CCF collector's universe. Fun thread topic, commems. " Even a clock that's stopped is right twice a day. "

I appreciate commems kind acknowledgment of my suggestion in the USA commemorative thread. All the credit goes to commems for expanding this idea to coins of the world - and I'm sure we will all enjoy some amazing examples. My contribution is arguably the most admired USA classic era silver commemorative coin. The supremely talented husband-wife design team James Earle Fraser and Laura Gardin Fraser designed the Oregon Trail Memorial half dollar which was produced in various years and mints during a long run from 1926 through 1939. The coin features a team of domesticated Oxen pulling a Conestoga wagon westward into the setting sun. 1937-D Oregon Trail half dollar - PCGS MS67+CAC I humbly defer to others to share additional coins from the USA commemorative series. I'll start off with some dogs on Australian coins. 2022 $1 - A boy and his dog. (Hooroo means goodbye)  2022 $1 - Kelpie  2023 $1 - Bulldog  2023 $1 - Blue Heeler  2024 $1 - Bluey  2024 $1 - Bingo  2024 $1 - War Animals. As well as the dog, there is also a cat, horse and doves.
