Looking for your help on this one. What caused a double image, but only on the obverse? There's no sign on the reverse of any second strike.

I wonder if it was struck with a counterfeit obverse die? Error-ref.com is down, so I am unable to post a link to it.

Back in 2018 when I posted that 1964 in the link above, I was unaware of these counterfeits and Mike Diamond laid it out correctly. In 2021 Joe Cronin's book Mint Errors to Die For came out, and on page 274 he tells the whole story behind these. They are called 1964 "Piacentile/Sheiner" Lincoln cents, with the counterfeiters eventually being sentenced to 3 months in prison and 2 years probation. It can be tricky to sell a counterfeit, even labeled as such, but these are collectible and usually sell for $25 to folks who collect such things.
