So my buddy gave me this 1870 Three Cent Nickel I was wondering if this is a clipped planchet and if it is does it bring any value or does this coin hold any value thank you ccf

What does the edge of the area in question look like? I'm suspecting PMD.

I agree with Errers - this looks more like the edge was ground down rather than a clipped planchet. I don't see the characteristic flow in the denticles in that area.

The rim is complete and undistorted. This generally indicates that the material was filed off after the strike. If the material were missing before the strike, the rim in that area would be distorted or weak from the lack of metal during the strike.

I agree that all the above but will add that there does appear to be an obverse lamination going from k7 to k12. An image of the rim might confirm what looks like a split in the planchet at the rim above LIBERTY.

The lamination looks to be on the reverse as well and follows the same "vein" as the obverse one.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
