One site among others for errors and similar is error-ref.com, and for things like varieties, varietyvista.com can help. Although extreme errors are quite exciting and yes, rare, there are far more "minor errors" to be found in circulation that could be worth a few dollars on up depending on what one has. One also has to be mindful of what appears to be an error but turns out to be some sort of post mint damage which we here on the CCF see all the time. There is another phenomenon called paridolia where we see something (on a coin) that is not really what we think it is.

And no, you are not stupid, you observe what you see and try your best to describe what you are seeing, and we here on CCF can point you in the right direction as to what you are looking at, as we can compare what error you are looking at to legitimate errors we may have knowledge in.
