Would you consider this a die crack?
While it goes through the bow tie it does not seem to go through the date.
What are the definitive characteristics of a die crack.
Does this one add value or take away?

to the CCF, kcowin797! It looks like the die was scratched or otherwise damaged. The date numbers are fairly deep narrow recesses on the die so that's why the mark appears behind them. A very interesting coin for sure. There's a small numismatic premium but not enough to retire on.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I think it is a scratch also. The rub mark over the dates digits and Abe's Bowtie are indication of the scratch movement over the devices.
The trench itself looks incuse with the metal displaced to the North of it.

Sorry for the delay, it is raised both north and south sides.
Depending on the light and angle sometimes it looks like a scratch in the center but it would have to have been extremely fine and sharp. From directly above it does not look like a scratch.

Unsure myself

My microscope is not strong enough to go deeper.
