to the forum You should really supply pictures when asking questions but I will take a guess and say it is caused by either a die chip or a contact mark. Without pictures it impossible to say for sure.

I also found this on the PCGS site about it, thi si all I could find. One such proof quarter came up with a doubled die error on the reverse, particularly on the mint mark. A doubled die error occurs when the die strikes the coin multiple times at slightly different angles, creating a doubling on the inscriptions. The stronger the doubling, the more valuable the error tends to be. In 2023, Heritage Auctions sold a 2007-S (proof) Washington quarter with a reverse side doubled die error for an eye-watering $1522, making this one of the most valuable errors in the series.

Beware the internet terminology like: Crying Washington, Drooling, Spitting etc. these are made-up ebay terms far too commonly used to sell coins that are just worth face value. I would most definitely hold off grading your coin until you figure out if there is any true doubling on it. I personally don't see anything resembling a Doubled Die here.

to the CCF. Stick around here to learn about errors and varieties. Some of the information in your first post is wrong. A doubled die is not when a coin is struck more than once, That would be a double struck coin. A doubled die is just what it says, the die was doubled when it was produced. Every coin that was minted with that die will have that doubling. A double struck coin is a one off.

Quote: 30$ per coin it would be 150.00 for the set if I send in. $150.00 to grade 5 coins. Add to that: Your shipping and insurance fees to get the coins to PCGS. $10.00 order handling fee. $32.00 return shipping and insurance. $20.00 attribution fee for your "Crying Washington error" coin, the grading fee doesn't cover this cost.
